Hitler's first choice - 4Rx - xlpharmacy or a local phramacy?
Ok so if Hitler were around today and had a choice between socialized medicine as opposed to free market medicine which would he chose? One would think for certain it would be socialized medicine because he was after all a socialist and once people make up their minds on how things should be, rarely do they change their minds, even if it's proven another alternative method works better.
If one were to look at the world today and see free market systems in use vs. socialized systems with the U.S. an example of free market (for the most part) and say Canada or the EU as good examples of socialized medicine it would appear both systems have their challenges.
Free market medicine in the U.S. has proven to be the best in the world when it comes to health care. Some would argue this fact, but to no avail. To make my point that it is the best just ask yourself how often do American's leave the U.S. to go to another country for medical treatment? I'd dare say it is rare indeed. However people from all over the world, and I'm including those who live in countries with socialized medical services not just those from 3rd world countries pour over U.S. borders like bees to honey to get their medical treatment in the U.S. In fact I have a relative who lives in New Zealand which is a national health care country and she has to wait months to get her children in to see a doctor at times and the services provided don't come close to that of the U.S. The result of that is she is going to be bringing her daughter to the U.S. for treatment.
On top of that people in nations with national health care pay taxes in the 40-50% range which is a direct result of having to pay for national health care for everyone. Sure it's nice to not get a bill in the mail, but that's because your getting billed every paycheck whether you need the service or not. Also the doctors have no incentive to excel, after all you get paid the same whether you see one patient that day or twenty. This has caused many doctors form nations who use the socialized medicine system to flee to free market countries so they can get paid according to their work ethics and the complexity for their services. In other wards getting rewarded according to services rendered.
Now of course free market systems also have their down sides as well. For instance doctors can be sued to the ground instead of being protected under the system. This is a double edged sword as there are certainly cases where a doctor in clearly negligent and deserves to be sued, but unfortunately a very high percentage of the time cases brought against doctors and hospitals are a result of people looking to retire rich at the doctors and insurance companies expense. because these cases are so expensive for the doctors and their insurers to fight on an ongoing basis many case are simply settled out of court because even if the doctors legal team feels they have a strong case it simply costs less to settle and so thousands of people every year game the system and get away with what is basically extortion This causes the insurance companies to continue to raise rates making it more difficult for families who don't get health care through their employers to be able to afford the heath coverage their families need.
The above example also causes doctors to move out of states (if in the U.S.) where medical malpractice laws are stacked heavily against them. And because so many doctors (even the good ones) get sued so often it's making choosing this profession less and less appealing.
Free market medicine also fails in the affordability of prescription dugs. The FDA and the prescription drug lobby sleep in the same bed. The FDA makes it difficult for those consumers in a free market like the U.S. to buy their prescriptions from outside the country. They'll tell you it's because they are trying to protect the public and to some degree I'm sure that's true, but they are also protecting their buddies in the pharmaceutical industry to protect their profits on over priced drugs.
So which system is better when clearly both have some serious flaws? Well I'll leave that up to you to decided or yourself and I'm sure people have strong opinions for both sides. My personal opinion is that the free market system is better and I say that for a couple of reasons.
1. I find it hard to get by with my taxes as high as they are now and they're not nearly 40% plus so how would I live if my taxes were that high? Yes I know I have to pay for my health coverage too, but being fair by adding that into my monthly costs along with my standard taxes is still a far cry from what people pay in countries who use the national health care model.
2. I have relatives and friends in the EU and New Zealand and those people despite already having free health care have "all" had to go to a free market heath care country to seek medical attention due to the serious flaws in the national health care model. That right there tells me we have the right model, it just needs to be looked at from all angles, identify the flaws, and correct them
Till then if you live in a free market system or a socialized system you can still go online to buy your prescriptions at places like 4rx or xlpharmacy and pay a heck of a lot less in most cases then if you ran down to the local pharmacy.
