Breastfeeding Babies, The Benefits
There are some significant health benefits when it comes to breastfeeding babies. For one there are more nutrients in breast milk that any other source and most breast fed babies have an easier time feeding than when trying to utilize the usual alternatives such as baby bottles. Another plus is that babies who are breast fed are less likely to become sick, according to doctors.
It is a widely held affirmation that babies who are breast fed not only develop as they should, but do not gain as much weight as babies who do as a mother's milk supply is limited while babies on bottles can sometimes get too much if not careful. Studies have also shown that premature infants grow at a faster rate when breast fed. Furthermore, research has shown that babies who receive mother's milk are more likely to score higher on tests to determine their IQ level.
The benefits of breastfeeding for the mother are important too. Most women who breastfeed tend to lose the additional weight they gained during pregnancy quicker than those who do not. On top of that studies have shown that breastfeeding decreases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer as a result of breastfeeding their young. It has also been determined that women who breastfeed are less likely to develop osteoporosis, which has become a concern for those who are pre and post-menopausal.
Breastfeeding is a natural process that is not only a healthy benefit to your baby, but to mom as well. This is a time when mother and baby begin the bonding process, that is so important for a healthy baby. It helps mother and baby to relax and offers mom the opportunity to have some quiet time as well.
Mothers who breastfeed their babies are providing the best health benefits they can give their newborns in the first days and months of their lives. Since there has been so much research and studies conducted determining the health benefits derived from breastfeeding, the consensus amongst doctors is that breastfeeding babies outweighs bottle feeding, but you still need to be careful about your baby getting enough. Some woman can not produce enough milk and in such cases supplementing your babies daily intake with "some" baby formula is recommended.
If you can breastfeed then by all means do so, but if there are times you simply can not for some reason do not feel guilty like you're somehow cheating your baby. Formulas are not bad for them, just not as good and having some formula on hand when you really need it is an acceptable solution.
