Mens body fat target
Many medical experts today will tell you that the essential body fat percentage required for a man is roughly 3-4%, but essential and what you as a male should really be at are two different stories. Male body builders for contest will generally range in the 3-5% body fat range with those taking steroids finding it easier to be at the lower end of the scale. There are a few different methods to testing your body fat percentage though I don't know of any that are 100% accurate. The one most used is the skin fold test, but consider the results can be different depending on the tool used and even the human factor since it's done by a person. Now a days you can even buy a digital scale at many stores these days that supposedly test your body fat percentage.
I've stepped on my own scale that can do this a couple years ago and even then at age 39 and a person who doesn't exercise and have a desk job I was still at 15%! I just stepped on my scale again a couple years later and…….. ok I now firmly believe that the skin fold test is the way to go because this scale is obviously not working!
Ok so let me just give you a chart to give you an idea of what a good [tag-tec]bodyfat[/tag-tec] percentage is for you if you're an average guy.
Exceptional 7-9%
Very good with good muscle definition 10-14%
Average Joe 15-19%
Below average, hit the gym 20-25%
Ouch your world wide dating pool could fit in a phone booth, [tag-cat mens health]exercise[/tag-cat] and eat right 26% +
As for my body fat percentage ………………… 19%. Whew I'm still in the average Joe department which I guess isn't too bad considering my age, job, stress level from job, the crap I eat and the fact I still don't exercise. I'll need to do something about this soon.
Best Regards,
Stephen
