Sometimes I wonder if the FDA only cares about Counterfeit Drugs offshore

I was reading this press release by the Department Of Justice warning people of an alleged unlawful prescription drugprison-01A.jpg operation, but get this it was, excuse me, it is presumed to have occurred here on U.S. soil!

Let me give you a couple excepts for those not interested in the full story. "The operation resulted in millions of dosage units of powerful and addictive controlled substances, primarily hydrocodone and alprazolam, being distributed to thousands of customers nationwide based on unlawful and illegitimate prescriptions.".

Another: "According to the indictment, from in or about August 2002 to in or about May 2006, the five defendants conspired with each other and others to distribute powerful and addictive prescription painkillers and anxiety medications, all of which were Schedule III or Schedule IV controlled substances, to customers located throughout the United States based on purported prescriptions."

Ok so why my sarcasm about it taking place on U.S. soil? Well because if you were to go to the FDA's website it seems like every other article is about corruption in regards to off shore pharmacies, and they constantly tell you to "buy American" and avoid low cost offshore operations! For some reason I couldn't find this story on their site; is it because corruption in the U.S. gets a pass?

All prescription conspiracy theories aside I do think the FDA does take into account the safety of U.S. citizens seriously, but at the same time I get the feeling sometimes that their focus is very one sided. My belief is that consumers have to use their own best judgment most of the time when it comes to purchasing no prescription needed drugs online. My opinion is that there are always going to be people out there trying to rip you off, and they aren't all located outside U.S. boarders.

Best Regards,

Stephen
